Our inaugural event, Post Ebola economic renaissance in Sierra Leone and the role of the private sector, was chaired by the Rt Hon David Lammy MP, and demonstrated the country's continuing investment opportunities, despite the challenges of the Ebola epidemic.

"Having been investing in Sierra Leone for the last 9 years, we continue to see a range of profitable investment opportunities in the country. Improving macro-economic conditions and continued support from the international community will drive corporate growth in coming 12 months. Nonetheless, significant headwinds remain and investors will need to remain disciplined when choosing investments – the likelihood of losing money when investing in frontier markets remains high. Identifying good management teams with strong local networks and businesses with market leading positions will be key to success.
In addition, investors must expect significant shocks along the way (in the last 2 years we’ve seen the crash in global commodity prices and the outbreak of Ebola). Patience, a strong commitment to investee management teams and an on the ground presence will be essential. For the right investors, Sierra Leone can deliver strong returns. In addition, investors can gain exposure to businesses that have significant social impact – creating jobs and reducing the cost of living. We are excited about finding and investing in such businesses in the coming years." Tom Cairnes, Manocap
