For the first time Sierra Leone's bankers can take their professional exams in Sierra Leone

This week will mark the first time in Sierra Leone that candidates will be able to take the Associateship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB) examinations in Sierra Leone. This opportunity is made possible by the Sierra Leone Association of Commercial Banks (SLACB), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and the Bank of Sierra Leone. The examinations will be accredited under the CIBN.

The ACIB certification process includes a series of exams taken by candidates over a 12-24 month period. The first of the exams in Sierra Leone shall be held this week (10th-12th April) in Freetown.

Addressing the Board of Directors of SLACB, the Executive Secretary, Ms. Shola Taylor-Pearce stated: “This opportunity was never locally available. In the past, Sierra Leoneans have had to travel out of the country in order to become accredited as professional bankers or to become accredited accountants. We have had many accredited accountants doing all sorts of jobs in banks, including the work of professional bankers. Now we can finally have bankers who are bankers!”

The President of SLACB, Dr. Damos Solaru who also serves as Managing Director of Access Bank, urged all banks to develop financing programmes that will enable their accountants to afford the associated costs of the exams bringing them one step closer to qualifying for ACIB certification.

The next examination will be held in October 2018. The application deadline for this exam is 15th April 2018
